DEMOLITION OF THE CASTLE
As Filippo Maria died in 1447, the Milanese people, tired of the Visconti tyranny, constituted the Ambrosian Republic. Then, they armed themselves with picks and carts to tear down the oppressive castle. After the demolition, the stones were used to pay off debts and to restore the old town walls, which symbolized Milan and its glorious past.
