At the time of the Sforzas the battlements and their walkways ran along the entire perimeter of the castle, however, these were damaged during the centuries of foreign domination of the city (16th - 19th centuries). The battlements that can be seen today are the result of the restoration started by Luca Beltrami in 1893, for which the architect referred to existing documentation, iconography and other Sforza castles in the region of Lombardy.
